Obituary

 

            Tommy Joe Slaven,63 years old died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 11, 2022.Born in Martin, KY (Floyd County), Tommy attended Martin Elementary & Martin High School. Tommy Joe entered his eternal life on September 11, 2022, and is survived by his daughter, Courtney Slaven, Simpsonville, SC, his grandson, Lawson Slaven, who was his pride and joy.

 

            Tommy Joe enjoyed showing everyone pictures of his grandbaby anytime he had an opportunity. His face lit up anytime he spoke of Lawson. Tommy Joe worked at Singer & also at Ryobi in the machine shop for over 13 years. He then started his own company, CRS Construction where he contracted concrete and stucco finish work. Tommy Joe was also an excellent gardener. His gardens produced beautiful vegetables that he loved to share with his family & friends.

 

            Tommy Joe was a great patriot of the United States of America. He took great pride in honoring any fallen military person who had served our country by spending many countless hours volunteering with the Rolling Thunder Chapter #5, in Lexington. He was one of the founding members of Chapter #5 and served as the President for two years. He was the Vice President of the Rolling Thunder Chapter# 3 in Dandridge TN from 2016-

present. He loved to serve along with many others to honor all those who so deserved to be honored. He loved the hills of Tennessee; however, he was most at peace when he was in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, which is where he grew up and will be laid to rest.

 

            Tommy is also survived by his loving sisters. Donna Temple (Mike) Lexington, KY, Sandra Ferrell (Jimmy) Martin, KY, Charlotte Martin (Kevin) Lexington KY, Melissa Ferrell, Martin, KY, Connie Parsons, Paintsville, KY, Kimberly Parsons, Salyersville, KY, Freda Cavinder (Don), Van-Wert Oh, Melissa Freeman Dexter, MI and brothers, Ronnie Parsons(Deb), Jackson, MI& Greg Parsons, Jackson, MI. Tommy Joe had many close friends that he also considered to be family along with several other surviving family members. He is also survived by Courtney's Mother; Robin Moody Slaven, Simpsonville, SC.

           

            He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Magdalene & Charlie Ferrell & brothers, Steven Ferrell & Junior Ferrell and a sister, Melissa Freeman, Dexter, MI.

 

            Visitation will be at Hall Brothers Funeral Home, Martin, KY on Friday, September 16th from 2:00pm - 4:00pm, Funeral will be at 4:00pm following visitation. Burial will be on Saturday, September 17th at Drift Cemetery, Drift, KY.
