Sharon Jean (Sturgill) Smith

Sharon Jean Sturgill Smith, age 62, of Prestonsburg, KY, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY. She was born February 27, 1959 in Paintsville, KY, a daughter of the late Arnold Bert Sturgill and Mary Akers Bautister. She was a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church and a cook and matron for the Floyd County Detention Center.

She is survived by three daughters: Kelly McElhose, Prestonsburg, KY, Jamie Smith, Estill, KY and Kayla (Cory) Stephens, Pikeville, KY, two brothers; Michael D. Sturgill, Hager Hill, KY and Arnold Sturgill, Betsy Layne, KY, one sister; Karen Lynn Howard, Hueysville, KY, eight grandchildren; Katelynn, Hailey, Emileigh, AAleeyah, Jaykob, Aubree, Alijah and Journey, one great grandchild; Hayden Briella and mother at heart; Donna Sturgill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Ricky Joe Sturgill.

Funeral service for Ms. Smith will be conducted on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, KY. Visitation will be after 6 PM Tuesday and all day Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home.
