Robert Hughes Jr.

Robert Hughes Jr., age 71, of Banner, Kentucky, husband of Brenda Hughes, passed away February 14, 2025 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Robert (RB) and Magdalene Hughes of Honaker, Kentucky. 

Robert married the love of his life on September 7, 1982 and and they celebrated 42 wonderful years together. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and papaw. 

He was a devoted Christian who loved God and life. 

His day highlights and proudest moments were spent with his daughter Sabrina and 2 Granddaughters Mia and Mila. Every day dinners, after school activities, watching Mila in volleyball or Mia singing with the Mountain Arts Center was what he most enjoyed outside of being an avid western watcher. 

Robert was a retired mine owner/operator. His love of coal mining was amazing. He was at home inside those dark mines and loved every minute of the business. 

After retiring from the mining industry, he started an excavation hobby. He loved equipment of any nature and considered moving dirt a hobby and fun.

He was an army veteran. 

Robert is survived by 3 children. Sabrina (Casey) Lequire of Banner, Kentucky, Shawn (Diane) Hughes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Craig Hughes of Prestonsburg, Kentucky. 

He had 8 grandchildren. Mia Lequire, Mila Lequire, Madisen Hughes, Hanna Hughes, Chandler Hughes, Cailey Brown, Cameron Hughes, Kassidy Hughes, and a bonus grandson Dylan Akers.

He was survived by one brother Edgar Hughes of Dana, Kentucky, two sisters, Debbie Akers of Martin, Kentucky and Justine Kidd of Grethel, Kentucky.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert (RB) and Magdalene Hughes of Honaker, Kentucky. 

Funeral service  will be held at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 26, 2025 after 1:00 p.m., with Funeral Services on Thursday, February 27 at 1:00 pm. Final burial will be at the Bryce Conn Cemetery Banner, Kentucky. 

Funeral services will be officiated by Tommy Reed.
