Nell Davis Tackett, 81, of Harold, Kentucky, passed away on August 20, 2023 after a long illness.
Nell was born on February 16, 1942 to Rosella Ward Davis and Bruce Davis at Boonscamp in Johnson County Kentucky. After Nell graduated from Meade Memorial High School, she then went on to study business at Mayo Technical College.
She was very proud of the 37 years she worked for her aunt and uncle, Elaine and Paul Gearheart at Gearheart Communications. Her retirement in 2015 was something she hesitated to do, but wanted to spend more time with her "Sweetheart."
In 1990. Nell met Ermal Tackett and quickly fell in love. They were married on October 13, 1990. Not having children of her own, Nell quickly claimed Ermal's children and called them her own. She often said they were the "family she would've never had." She adored Ermal and was frequently heard telling people, "I'm crazy about Ermal!" With her direct personality and his gentle nature, they balanced each other perfectly.
After Nell retired she spent most of her time at home. She was content being with Ermal and spending time watching for birds and the mail delivery out of their large picture window. She enjoyed watching QVC as evidenced by the packages that came frequently to which Ermal would just shake his head. She was always ready to try out the latest new gadget.
Nell was baptized on April 10, 1983 at Free United Baptist of Prestonsburg. She was currently a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church. During her illness, she would watch Charles Stanley on TV and she missed fellowshipping with her church family.
Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ermal Tackett, her parents and her sisters Sara Wallen and Hester Crabtree. She is survived by her brother Bruce Davis Jr.; brother-in-law, Harold Wallen; stepdaughter, Sherry (Larry) Kimbler, stepson; Ernie (Traci) Tackett; grandchildren, Dale (Amy) Kimbler, Brad (Robin) Kimbler, Stacy (Michael) Ratliff, Coby (Hannah) Tackett and Carter (Haley) Tackett; eight great-grandchildren, Bethany (Aaron) Rogers, Cameron Kimbler, Carson Ratliff, Alex Kimbler, Mattie Ratliff, Andrew Kimbler, Wyatt Ratliff, Lyla Tackett as well as a host of special nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be held at Hall Funeral Home on Friday, August 25 at 1:00 with Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, KY and visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home.
