Merlene Baldridge Lindsey, 75 passed away in Foley, Alabama on June 22, 2025. Merlene was the only child born to the late Bernard Baldridge and Fanny Halbert Baldridge on September 6, 1949 in Martin, Kentucky. She attended Martin Grade School through Martin High School and graduated with the Purple Flash class of 1967. She attended Morehead State University and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1971.
In 1980 Merlene met the love of her life, Bengie Lindsey and for the next 45 years Merlene was replaced with Merlene and Ben. They were a perfect match and together they set off for adventures. In 1981 they moved to Houston, Texas and lived there for over 6 years. They made friendships there that Merlene continued to cherish. In 1987 they returned to Kentucky to be near family. Merlene found the job she loved, working at Overbrook Farm as an administrative assistant in the thoroughbred industry. After the death of her mother, Merlene and Ben retired to Alabama in 2020.
Merlene was known for her fun-loving nature. She loved to laugh and joke with her family and friends, travel to new places and listen to Elvis. After her mother’s passing she often said she missed going to Floyd Co and eating one of her mom’s wonderful “renowned” meals and the laughs that were shared. Merlene was a thoughtful soul sending a perfectly fitting birthday card, text to check in or a phone call to say “Hi” in that perpetual youthful voice.
In addition to her husband Merlene is survived by a very special first cousin Brenda Collins Campbell of Catlettsburg, KY, a very special lifelong best friend Madeleine Williams and her husband Henry of Nicholasville, KY and many additional extended family members and friends.
Memorial service for Merlene Baldridge Lindsey will be conducted Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 1 PM at the Prestonsburg Church of Christ, Prestonsburg, KY. Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, KY. Visitation is from 11:00-1:00 Saturday, July 12th until time of service at the Prestonsburg Church of Christ.
