Joyce Ann Johnson, age 91, of Melvin, KY, widow of Charles Johnson, died Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, KY. She was born March 17, 1934 in Bypro, a daughter of the late Charlie and Verdie Little Newsome. Joyce was a member of the Wheelwright Community Church and a retired School Teacher with Floyd County School System.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheilah (late Danny) Vance, Bypro, Charlene (Herbie) Goble, Prestonsburg, KY, one sister; Mary Leeker, Sun City, FL, six grandchildren. Steven (Paula) Bates, Sarah (Chip) Burchett, Joshua (Tanika) Bates, Elizabeth (Derick) Salyer, Hannah (EJ) Goble, Rebekah (Richard) Patrick, and 16 great granchildren; Rachel, David, Clay, Daniel, Drake, Dylan, Brian, Emma, Logan, Hazleigh, Arabella, Chance, Maverick, Mason and Baby Patrick
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Bates, two brothers; Dewey and Virgil Newsome, five sisters; Bonnie Smith, Betty Browning, Nora Lawwill, Greta Jones, Linda Lou Newsome, grandson; Daniel Seth Vance, Brian Bates, and great granddaughter; Chloe Mae Patrick.
Funeral service for Joyce Ann Johnson will be conducted Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 1 PM in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Bobby Isaac officiating. Burial will follow in the Will Hall Cemetery, Bevinsville, KY. Visitation is after 6 PM Friday and after 10 AM Saturday at Hall Funeral Home.
