John K. Pitts, 88, of 106 Grayson Way, Georgetown, Ky., formerly of Floyd County, passed away Monday, December 26, 2023, at the University of Kentucky hospital. A native of Floyd County, Ky, he was the son of the late Hobart and Marie Pitts. After his service in the U.S. Army, he was a long-time educator in the Floyd County School System serving as schoolteacher, school principal, and school administrator for36 years. During his retirement he was a carpenter, furniture maker, handy man, gardener, and porch swinger. His greatest joy was being “Poppa”.
Survivors include two children, John David (Denise Ellegood) Pitts and Jayne Marie Pitts (Grover Clay) Hibberd; three grandchildren, Theodora Hibberd, (John Tenant) of Lexington; John Benjamin Pitts and William Thomas (Myla Osborne) Pitts of Georgetown; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm; with the Funeral services at 1:00 at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Ky. The Reverend Andrew Singh will be officiating. Burial will be in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Ky., under the professional care of Hall Funeral Home of Martin, Ky.
