In Loving Memory of Harold Howard
Harold Howard, age 95, of Louisville, KY, formerly of Magoffin County, passed away on January 22, 2025. He was the last surviving child of Maudie and Callie Howard. He was born at Gunlock, Magoffin County KY. He was a farmer, musician, artist, photographer, painter and competitive sportsman.
He started his over 50+ year teaching career at the age of 19 as an emergency school teacher at a one-room school house in Magoffin County. In 1966, he moved to Louisville where he taught at Valley Elementary, Stuart High School, Stuart Middle School and Valley High School (as a substitute teacher after retirement). During many of those summers he worked with the Jefferson County Public School system as a school painter.
Harold married Dora Lee Risner on 12/21/1955 and had six children, Phyllis Howard (Albuquerque, NM) Paul Howard (Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH - wife, Linda) Wilma Brown and Delores Howard (Spokane, WA) Lisa Hollis (Louisville, KY - husband Dan) and Stephen Howard (Floyds Knobs, IN - wife Lauren); nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Callie Joseph; brothers Tilden, Johnie and Kenneth; sisters, Thelma, Mazie Coffey, Alta Vanderpool and Lucy Perry; brothers and sisters in law Effie, Cleo, Dee, Dan Coffey and his beloved wife of 46 years, Dora Lee.
Left to cherish Harold’s memory is his sister-in-law Marlene Howard and brother-in-laws Hayes Vanderpool and Jack Perry.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Brushy Bill Cemetery at Gunlock, KY, under the care of the Hall Funeral Home.
