Gloria Faye Slone Rister, age 87, of Garrett, KY, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, KY. She was born September 7, 1936 in Garrett, KY and was a daughter of the late Bill and Virginia May Slone.
In 2018, she was preceded in death by Edgar Lee Rister to whom she was married to for nearly 60 years. She was a 1954 Graduate of Garret High School and was a retired secretary from both Garrett and Wayland High Schools. She was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of Garrett First Baptist Church. She loved her community and was always serving, including making her famous peanut butter fudge and hot dog sauce.
She is survived by one son, Mike (Belinda) Rister, Gallatin, TN; one daughter, Barb (Greg) Davis, David, KY; two brothers Charles Slone and Tony Slone; one granddaughter, Brittany (Aaron) Thompson; one great granddaughter, Davis Caroline; and one step-grandson, Cole Combs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters. She will always be affectionately be remembered as “Gige”.
A Celebration of Life for Gloria Rister will be conducted Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, KY, with Blaine DePoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Hicks Family Cemetery, Hippo, KY, visitation is from 11:00 A.M. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home under the professional and dignified care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
