Gary Nicholas Newman

Gary Nicholas Newman, age 76, of Grethel, KY, husband of Betty Nelson Newman, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY.  He was born July 23, 1945 in Portsmouth, OH, to the late Thurman and Melvina Perry Newman.  He was a retired school teacher and principal from John M. Stumbo Elementary and was a member of the Wheelwright Masonic Lodge No. 889 F&AM.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons; Nelson Ryan Newman, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Jonathan (Rebecca Fraley) Newman, Van Lear, KY, one daughter; Melanie Renee (Douglas) Combs, Winchester, KY, two brothers; James “Jim” (Ruby) Newman, Harold, KY and Larry Newman, Lexington, KY, one granddaughter; Ashton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law; Janice Newman.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, KY, visitation is after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, under direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
