French “Poppy” Campbell, 92 of Banner, Kentucky went to be with his lord on Saturday October 24th, 2020 at Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Ky. He was born on November 12, 1927 in Mousie, Ky. French was the son of the late John E. Campbell and Lillie Triplett Campbell. He was a member of Allen Baptist Church and a graduate of Garrett High School. French was a World War II veteran and a retired accountant for the state of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his wife Willena Campbell. His parents and siblings, Elmo Campbell, Ray (Shag) Campbell, Jessie Martin, and John (Dog) Campbell. Daughters Gina Campbell Samons and Maletta Campbell. Poppy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved UK basketball but he loved watching his grandchildren play sports most of all. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Survivors include his daughter Kathy (Brian) Williams of Allen, grandchildren Wesley French Samons (Nikki) of Vero Beach, Florida, Bryson French Williams and Kaylee Maletta Williams of Allen, son in law Wilburn Samons of Prater. Nephews Johnny (Theresa) Campbell, and Barry Campbell of Banner, Johnny (Anita) Martin and Lois (Danny) O'Neil of Garrett, Kentucky. And a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday October 31st, 2020 at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky with Lowell Samons Jr. presiding. Visitation will be Friday October 30th, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Hall Funeral Home.
