Freeman Duff, 89, widower of Shirley F. Blackburn Duff since 1996, joined her in eternal rest on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
He was the last surviving of six brothers born to James and Creddie Lawson Duff in Garrett, Kentucky in Floyd County. Freeman was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany in the 1950s. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Floyd County, Kentucky in 1969, worked as a supervisor at General Telephone for 35 years, and also enjoyed working at Napa Auto Parts. Freeman loved old country music and fishing with his best friend, Phil Cloyd. He was a Master Carpenter who had built houses with his son Rick in years past. Lately Freeman mostly built birdhouses and dollhouses, but in truth, he could build anything.
He leaves a lifetime of memories with his sons Rick Duff, wife Belinda, and Freeman Alexander “Alex” Duff, Sr. Freeman was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren: Alex Duff, A.J. Duff, Chance Duff, Cody Duff, wife Jessica, and Chelsea Miller, husband Trent, as well as great-granddaughters Raelynn and Adalynn and great-grandsons Kayson and Huxley.
Besides his wife and parents, he will be reunited in death with his five brothers: James Arville, Birchell, James Buford, James Woodford, and James Ervil Duff.
Freeman's family will greet friends Monday, September 30, 2024 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home from 11AM-12PM, followed by a Graveside Service at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military honors at 12:30PM.
“Taps: Day is done, gone the sun from the lake, from the hill, from the sky. All is well, safely rest. God is nigh. Thanks and praise for our days ‘neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, ‘neath the sky. As we go, this we know. God is nigh.”
All arrangements are under the direction of Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, and we send our deepest sympathy to Freeman’s family and friends.
