Ernest Ray Gibson, age 88, of Martin, KY, husband of the late Lou Jean Ousley Miller Gibson, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in the VA Medical Center, Huntington, WV. He was born March 11, 1935 in Wayland, KY, a son of the late Cody and Bessie Click Gibson. He was a carpenter, retired U.S. Army and a member of the Disabled American Veterans chapter 128.
He is survived by three daughters: Audrey (Kenneth) Scarberry, Marcella (Rodney) Damron both of Martin, KY and Della (Craig) Hicks, Hueysville, KY; two brothers: James M (Janet) Gibson, New Richmond, OH and Brewie (Deanna) Gibson, Morgantown, WV, one sister: Brenda Manchester, Reynoldsburg, OH, three sisters-in-law; Juanita Gibson, Wayland, KY, Nancy Gibson, McDowell, KY, Margaret Gibson, Coeur d'Alene, ID six grandchildren: Kenneth (Debbie) Scarberry, Jonathan (Beth) Scarberry, Mathhew Neil (Jenny) Hicks, Kari Elaine Hicks (Matt) Gill, Wade Alan (Diane) Damron and Christopher (Stacey) Damron; 14 great grandchildren: Bethany Tackett, Kane & Luke Scarberry, Allison & Jacob Hicks, Ruthie Bays, Alana & Sara Damron, Wyatt & Garrett Gill, Blake & Isabella Frasure, Lillie Elliot and Ivy Bevins. three great - great grandchildren: Cove, Colin and Owen Tackett, also a host of nieces of nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ernest was preceded in death by four brothers: Ellis, Everett, Paul and Daryl Gibson; two sisters: Ogie Johnson and Olga "Brown" Millspaugh.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 5 p.m. for family and after 6 p.m. for friends. Funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Dale McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the John Wesley Ousley Cemetery, Stephens Branch, Martin, KY, under direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
