Emma Grace Billips
Emma Grace Halbert Billips passed away peacefully in her home on January 28, 2023. She was born December 2, 1929 to the late Garner and Nannie Stewart Halbert. Emma Grace was born and raised in McDowell, KY and was a graduate of McDowell High School. Throughout her entire life, she was a trailblazer, never allowing obstacles to stand in her way. She was a proud graduate of Pikeville College and was particularly honored to be considered an esteemed Floyd County educator at McDowell Elementary School where she taught reading for 37 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Johnny Billips, her beloved son, Bobby Ray Billips, along with four brothers: James Halbert, Astor Halbert, Jake Halbert, and Palmer Halbert.
How Emma Grace loved her family was no secret to all who knew her. She always delighted in providing the latest updates on her girls. Emma Grace is survived by one daughter, Johnene (Pete) Holbrook, and two granddaughters, Emily Holbrook (Tyler) Green and Olivia Holbrook (Dakota) Gilkison.
Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Arnold Turner Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, KY, visitation is from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, under direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
