Elizabeth Louise Johnston Mayton, age 92, of Stanville, Kentucky, passed away on November 22, 2022. She was born on July 28, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, but called Hopkinsville, Kentucky home.
She graduated South Christian High School in 1950, and married Robert Marvin Mayton in 1954. Together, they had three children, Ruth, Rebecca, and Robert. She worked for the International Shoe Company for 15 years before migrating to Eastern, Kentucky in 1968 as a missionary from Julien Baptist Church, Gracey, Kentucky. She served Mud Creek Missionary Baptist Church as Pastor’s wife & Sunday School Teacher, and Riverside Baptist Church as Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years combined.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Bessie Johnston, husband, Robert Marvin Mayton, and two brothers, Elden Johnston and Ernest Johnston.
She is survived by three children, Ruth Thompson (late Ted Thompson) of Stanville, Kentucky, Rebecca Ratliff (late Lee Ratliff) of Dema, Kentucky, and Robert (and Patricia) Mayton of Pikeville, Kentucky, as well as 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and her very best friend, Judy Allen of Stephens Branch, Kentucky.
The family will receive friends from from 5 until 9 p.m.on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Hall Brothers Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Hall Brothers. Burial to follow at Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Kentucky. The family would like to express their gratitude to Riverview Healthcare Center, Prestonsburg, Kentucky, for their wonderful care and compassion.
