Duna Frances Verich Combs, age 90, of Harold, KY, widow of Townsel Allen Combs, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at her residence. She was born June 7, 1930 in Laona, WI, a daughter of the late Peter and Annetta Mariani Verich.
She was an artist, creating hundreds of paintings and artworks through her lifetime. She touched everything in her life with artistic sensibility. She was painting with Aquarelle in her Art Gallery in Langley until last month. She was an extraordinary art educator, and taught her last class to her bright and dear students at the Piarist School on Tuesday, December 8, and administered the Final Exam on December 10. She read constantly and was a member of the Hillsdale College Imprimis, Claremont Review, Criterion, Heritage Foundation, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Opera. She made the best of the strange solitude of 2020 by watching the MetOpera Nightly Opera Streams - the broadcasts of the wonderful stories of this extraordinary art form. She was a Founding Member, with her dear friend, Jocelyn Dickson, of the Lexington Investment Club, a group of savvy and intelligent women who pooled their resources to learn about stocks and investing, they had a close camaraderie.
She is survived by three sons: Paul Townsel Combs, Langley, KY, Shawn Woodward (Missy) Combs, Nicholasville KY, William Spencer Constantine Demetrius Combs, Harold, KY, two daughters; Angela Combs (Frank) Baseman, Jenkintown, PA, Andrea Malina Combs, Bolivia, NC, twelve grandchildren; Julian Spencer and Rosalie Eleanor Baseman; Jessica Lowe, Michael Paul, Chad Combs; Dylan Spencer and Matthew Alexander Combs; Alexis Lewis, Landon Grant Combs; Austen, Marianna and Corbin Montouri. She is also survived by cherished Sister-in-Law, Mary Rathborne Verich of Laona, WI and well-loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Alexander and Demetrio Verich and two sisters; Malina V. Bianchi and Stana Estelle Verich.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 27 at her home, 529 Spencer Drive, Harold, KY with Rosary services at 12 noon, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will also be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at the St. Martha Catholic Church, Prestonsburg, KY.
