Reverend and Former Sheriff Doug Lewis, age 70, of Prestonsburg KY, entered his heavenly home on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 11:20 AM at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
Born January 19, 1951, to the late former Sheriff of Floyd County, Joe Wheeler Lewis, and the late Irene Adkins Lewis of Stanville, KY.
Doug’s career in law enforcement includes Floyd County Sheriff's Deputy, Floyd County Commonwealth Detective, and Floyd County Sheriff. He retired early from his term as Floyd County Sheriff to answer the Lord’s call to ministry. After graduating Clear Creek Bible College, Doug preached, helped lost souls find Jesus, and pastored churches for 35 years. He was a loyal, faithful servant to the Lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Prestonsburg, KY.
Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, Hedda Lamarr McCoy Lewis, of Prestonsburg, KY, daughter Christina (James) Cook of Clay City, KY, daughter Heather (Alan) Ledford of Winchester, KY, son Andrew (Lauren) Lewis of Prestonsburg, KY and grandchildren - Whitney Cook, Cole Ledford, Daniel Lewis, Maci Lewis, and Benjamin Lewis.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Doug is survived by his siblings - Denver Lewis, Janice Spann, Doris Lewis, Randall Lewis, Paul Lewis, Bryant Lewis, Brenda Lewis, and David Lewis.
Along with his parents, he’s preceded in death by his siblings - Georgia Mae Blackburn, Juanita Plumlee, Betty Jones, Roy Lewis, and Joe Wheeler Lewis Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Hall Funeral Home in Martin KY with Arnold Turner officiating. Entombment will follow in the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg, KY. Visitation will be after 6 pm Monday and all day Tuesday at the funeral home.
Due to Covid-19, the family asks that all visitors follow CDC recommendations. Masks are required and social distancing at all times.
