David D. Allen, passed away, on Saturday, December 27, 2025. He was born in Martin, Kentucky on January 19, 1939, the son of John Allen and Alice Reynolds Allen, and was reared at Sugar Loaf, Kentucky. He graduated high school from the Kentucky Military Institute and from Morehead State University with a degree in Accounting.
David was a loving husband of 47 years to Barbara Dotson Allen who preceded him in death in 2008; he was a loving Father and a loving Pappy to his six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Allen, Jr., brother Robert R. Allen, and his son, James D. ‘Jim’ Allen.
He worked as Floyd County (Kentucky) Treasurer for 25 years and in the natural gas business for more than 40 years retiring in 2003. He served as Chair of the Board of Trustees and on various church committees at First United Methodist Church, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He is survived by one son: David D. Allen II (Jennifer Schoelles) of Oxford, Mississippi; and daughter-in-law Shelia Duff Allen of Lexington, Kentucky.
He loved his grandchildren, David D. ‘D.J.’ Allen III (Lex K. Peel), Drew P. Allen, Matthew J. Williams (Haleigh), and Carter J. Williams, children of David II, and J. Corey Allen (Sarah) and Caitlin A. Gammon (Matthew), children of Jim. He loved his great grandchildren, Jonah, grandson of Jim, and Samson and Arlo, grandsons of David II.
He is survived by his brother, Stephen R. Allen (Terri) of Lexington, Kentucky, sister Judith Colvin McCreary of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, sister Mary Alice Leslie of Lexington, Kentucky, and brother-in-law Charles O. Dotson (Cathryn Dooly) of West End, North Carolina, sister-in-law Sarah B. Allen, Prestonsburg, KY.
Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m., January 1, 2026 at Highlands Memorial Cemetery, in Staffordsville, Kentucky. Graveside service will be officiated by Pastor Jerri Lyn Williams (Retired), former Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Entombment will be at Highlands Memorial Cemetery, in Staffordsville, Kentucky under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
