Connie Louise Shepherd, 70, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center. She was born on September 13, 1953 in Elkhorn City, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Con and Mae Bartley.
Connie was a graduate of Mayo Vocational School, Prestonsburg Community College, and Morehead State University. She retired from the Carl D. Perkins Rehabilitation Center in Thelma as an Instructor of Cosmetology and Business where she molded and touched the lives of many students. Additionally, she was well known in the community as the former owner and operator of the Red Carpet Hair Salon, Connie’s Beauty Salon, and Uni-Styles Unlimited. Her passion was to make others feel better about themselves. Many of her clients and students became a significant part of her family throughout the years. Connie was a talented cook and being a country girl at heart, she cherished her time raising gardens and putting away fresh fruit, vegetables, and canned goods. She had a passion for feeding people and loved nothing more than to provide meals to those she loved and to those in need. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, and considered her role as a Mother to be her most profound accomplishment. In fact, she prided herself as being a mother to many of her sons friends. Connie was a faithful Christian, and her faith sustained her during life’s challenges. She was a member of Fitzpatrick Baptist Church and had a great love for the people of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
Connie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Malcolm Trimble “Tim” Shepherd; her sons: Timothy Matthew Shepherd (Kimberly Prater) of Prestonsburg, KY, Jonathan Conrad Shepherd (Andrew Harvey) of Prospect, KY, and her chosen son Steve Reynolds of Prestonsburg, KY. She is also survived by her two sisters: Olive Faye Kerr of Lick Creek, KY and BettyJane (Doug) Lay of Pikeville, KY. Many nephews, nieces, friends and loved ones will cherish her memory.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Denver Bartley, Dallas Bartley, and Dennis Bartley; and an infant sister: Rebel Bartley.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Hall Funeral Home in Martin, KY. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home chapel. She will be laid to rest at the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg following the service.
Connie’s life was one of success and her legacy is now a treasure. As her favorite scripture reads, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
