Christine “Chris” Vanderpool, age 83, a resident of Williamsport, Tennessee, passed away Monday morning, July 17, 2023, at her daughter’s residence.
Born on October 15, 1939, in Hueysville, Kentucky, Chris was the daughter of the late Jake Hughes and the late Ethel Ousley Hughes and was raised by Jack & Susie Adkins who also preceded her in death. She worked as a housekeeper for a nursing home in Michigan for seventeen and Lewisburg, TN for two years. She was a member of Viola Baptist Church in Williamsport, TN. Chris loved cooking and baking and was well known for her own gingerbread recipe and her chicken and dumplings. Her church family affectionately called her the “Dumpling Queen.” She was the matriarch of her family and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Les) Damron of Williamsport, TN, Larry Vanderpool of Homer, MI, Gary Vanderpool of Williamsport, TN, adopted son, Mike (Janelle) Slone, brother, Ezra Adkins, daughter in law, Teresa Banks, grandchildren, Scott, Christy, Michael, Shawn, Jenah, Josh, Jacob, Brittani, Taylor, and Christian, nineteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren with two more on the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Vanderpool, son, Everett “Douglas” Vanderpool, great grandson, Tristan Damron, and siblings, Curt Hughes, Melvin Hughes, Chilli Hughes, Sylvia Hughes, Daniel Hughes, Orgie Adkins, Orville Adkins, Tramble Adkins, Georgie Adkins, and Mildred Ballamy.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery, Hueysville, KY, visitation is after 6:00 pm Friday and all day Saturday at Hall Funeral Home, under direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, KY
