Ben J. Spradlin

Ben J. Spradlin, age 82, was born to Charles and Hazel Spradlin on February 27, 1937 in Paintsville, KY. He graduated from Paintsville High School where he was a letterman on the Varsity Basketball team. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for two years. Upon discharge he returned home.

  In 1957, he started his career in banking at First Guaranty Bank in  Martin, KY. His first day on the job, he met his future wife, Shelby. Ben & Shelby were married two years later. They were blessed with two daughters, Toby and Lisa. While raising his family, Ben also pursued his career in banking. His ability to make connections with people, and his big heart made him a natural fit for the banking business. His dedication, work ethic, and love for the job led to him being named CEO of First Guaranty Bank. In all, Ben had a 45 year career in the banking business before retirement.

  In retirement, Ben made plenty of time for family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing trips, and sitting by the pool. He spent his life taking care of loved ones and providing for his family.

  Ben had a larger than life personality and was truly one of a kind. His generosity and giving heart has touched the lives of many.

  Ben was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Hazel Spradlin, and his sister, Charlcye Compton.                                                       

  He is survived by his wife, Shelby Spradlin, his two daughters; Toby (Alvin) Hall, Lisa (Gary) Glossop, his grandchildren; Morgan (Jordan)  Caldwell, John Grant Hambley, Landon (Cynthia) Slone, and Olivia Hambley, his great grandchildren Jude, Cameron,  Jensen and Maci, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

  Funeral service for Ben J. Spradlin will be conducted Monday, November 11, 2019 at 1 PM in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Mark Tackett officiating. Visitation is from 6 until 9 PM Sunday, November 10 and Monday November 11 from 10am until time of service at Hall Funeral Home.
