Avanell (Fugate) Hicks

            Avanell Hicks, age 97, of Prestonsburg, KY,  widow of Hubert Hicks and daughter of the late John L. Fugate and the late Pearl Goodman, died Thursday, April 17, 2025 in the Riverview Healthcare Center, Prestonsburg, KY. She was born October 26, 1927 in Floyd County. Avanell participated in Senior Olympics, was active with Senior Citizens, and was a retired supervisor at the Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.

            She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Hicks, Lexington, KY, Nora Hicks, Richmond, KY, six grandchildren; Ashla Adams, Stacy Chapman, Kristy Williams, Jonathan Chapman, Jason Caudill, Jennifer Caudill, Heather Wells, fifteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren (with one on the way), her Riverview Healthcare Family, and a host of family and friends.

            In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son, Maurice Hicks, and three daughters;  Dana Caudill, Iris Pettit and Rosemary McDaniel.

            Funeral service for Avanell Hicks will be conducted Saturday, April 19,2025 at 2 PM in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Gethsemane Gardens, Prestonsburg, KY. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and from 12 noon until time of service Saturday at Hall Funeral Home.
