Stella Mae Lafferty

Stella Mae Miller Lafferty was born on July 6, 1930 at the home of her grandparents Joe and Daisy Marshall Branham in Prestonsburg, KY, to the late Bryan Miller and Martha Branham Miller and passed away at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY on February 21, 2018. 

She married the love of her life, the late Jerry Albert Lafferty, Jr. on July 24, 1946.  Jerry and Stella had two children, Jerry Bryan (Anita Flanery) Lafferty and Patricia Ann Lafferty Hites. 

Throughout the years, she supported her husband in his business endeavors.  She was the Vice President of Lafferty’s Midway Motor Company and worked alongside him in the Floyd County Judge’s office.  Later, she worked at the Holiday Inn in Prestonsburg. 

Stella loved politics and enjoyed being a member of the Floyd County Democratic Women’s Club and the National Democratic Women’s Club.  A member of the Adah Chapter 24 of the Eastern Star, she had served as its Worthy Matron in 1969.  For many years, she belonged to the Prestonsburg First Presbyterian Church, but when her husband joined the First Baptist Church, she felt that it was important for her to join the church as well, but she always had a deep affection for the Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church and their members. 

She is survived by four grandchildren, Martha “Martie” (Susan) Lafferty, Nashville, TN; Lauren (Neill) Hamilton, Atlanta, GA; Brittany (Megan Hyden) Hites, Prestonsburg, KY, and Nicholas Weston Hites, Prestonsburg, KY, and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Hamilton and Collier Hamilton.   Her sister, Daisy Lee Miller, preceded her in death.  

Stella’s life will be celebrated at the First Baptist (Irene Cole Memorial) Church on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Steve Hopkins, the Rev. Jerri Williams, and the Rev Leigh Ann Maynard officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, KY.
