June (Howard) Stephens Hall

June (Howard) Stephens Hall, age 90, of Pyramid, KY, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 while in the care of Mountain Manor of Paintsville. She was born September 15, 1927 in Floyd County, KY a daughter of the late Ellis and Lula Prater Howard, who both died early in her childhood. She and her five siblings were raised by their uncle Graydon Howard and his wife Julia Prater Howard, sister of their mother. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pikeville plus her Master's degree and Rank 1 from Morehead State University. She started her teaching career at 18 years old at Spurlock Creek Elementary and continued to teach and guide young children in Floyd County at Brush Creek Elementary and Clark Elementary with additional work in the Head Start program. She finished her life long commitment as an educator as a reading consultant with the Floyd County Board of Education.

            She is survived by her son, Dana Miles (Monica Gerkins Thompson) Stephens; two sisters, Mildred Howard Whitaker and Bobby Howard Hale Prater, two grandchildren, Celia Leigh Stephens (Yancey) Gregory and Miles Lawson Stephens, step granddaughter, Summer Diane Thompson and special cousin, Priscilla Howard Allen.

            In addition to her parents and adoptive parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, George P. Stephens, second husband, Adrian Hall, two brothers, James Lowell Howard, James Lawrence Howard, one sister, Goldie Howard Stephens and special cousins, Clara Howard Stephens, Bryan Howard and Gladys Howard Shepherd.

            Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Clinton Deaner Moore and Jimmy Hall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Howard Family Cemetery, Pyramid, KY, visitation is after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, under the professional and dignified care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
