John Hays Turnley, age 94, of Martin, KY, husband of the late Maxine Gayheart Turnley, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 in the VA Medical Center, Lexington, KY. He was born October 29, 1924 in Wheelwright, KY, a son of the late John P. and Narcissus Hays Turnley. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, retired from the KY Power Company where he worked for 52 years, a member of the First Baptist Church of Martin and a ham radio operator. He was a past Master and 1st Charter Member of the John W. Hall Masonic Lodge belonging over 60 years. He was a member of the AM Vets, DAV and VFW. A member of the Swinging Sensations and a Martin ABC Deputy Agent.
He is survived by one son: Ricky (Marcia) Turnley, one daughter; Connie (Dominic) Ballard, five grandchildren; Jeremy and Brian Turnley, Becky Ballard Travelstead, Gina Ballard and Kelly Mefford, six great grandhildren; Will and Georgia Davis, Gavin and Logan Mefford, Beau and Hayes Turnley.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister: Peggy Comstock.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 pm in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, KY. Visitation is 10:00 am Saturday until time of service at Hall Funeral Home, Martin, KY.
