Eddie Akers, age 92, of Harold, KY, husband of the late Christa Gertrude Wagner Akers, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, KY. He was born April 23, 1926 in Amba, KY, a son of the late Daniel and Norma Hall Akers.
Eddie was a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church, retired KY State Mine Inspector, State Commander of the VFW ' 93-94, Life Member of the American Legion, Martin, KY, DAV Chapter 169 Betsy Layne, Amvets Martin, KY, Grand Commander of the State Military Order of the Cootie, member of the John W. Hall Masonic Lodge No. 950 F& AM, member of the El Hasa Shrine, Ashland, KY, and a member of Floyd County Farm Bureau for 60 years having served as Secretary, Vice President and President.
He is survived by three sons; Randel Akers, Gregory (Carol) Akers and Saul (Sherry) Akers, all of Harold, KY, one brother; Foster Arlon Akers, Las Vegas, NV, one sister; Towana Frasure, Harold, KY, five grandchildren; Monica Owens, Dwayne Akers, Dianna Mattingly, Jessica Kidd and Christopher Akers and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Arzella Cordle and Flora C. Akers.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee Alley Cemetery, Galveston, KY, visitation is after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with church service at 7 p.m., under the professional and dignified care of Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky.
